A massive CONGRATULATIONS to our Competition teams, soloists and duets who took part in the Stand Out UK Dance Festival. Miss Kate is the charging force behind our Competition programme, and a number of the team are involved in providing private coaching and tuition to our soloist and duet competitors.
Hosted at the Adelphi Theatre in Liverpool, the dancers spent a very long Sunday on the 9th February representing Topaz Dancentre in a wide number of categories. We have numbers for teams in Musical Theatre, Street and Lyrical Dance, and soloists in a wider range still, even some Song and Dance solo entries!
Some numbers will be familiar, such as Swish Swish, Baggy Trousers and Hindi Sad Diamonds, which the teams performed in our Big Show last May, and some routines had their very first outing at this event. Our senior team had a brand new entry with 'Home', and, in a first for a long time, our entire competition squad united for this years competition entry of Dancing Fool!
TEAM ENTRIES
There were winning entries for the Swish Swish and Baggy Trousers!! Two nice 1st place trophies heading for the cabinet!
Both new entry pieces received second place awards, Home for our Senior Team, and Dancing Fool, which every member of our competition teams participates in united!!
Completing the team entries, our Seniors picked up a 3rd place with Hindi Sad Diamonds.

SOLO AND DUET ENTRIES
We have a growing number of our dancers who choose to enter individual pieces for the competitons. These are always very competitive categories with large numbers of entrants and achieving a placing in these categories is beyond challenging!
Esmé and Emilie placed 5th with their Duet entry, Katie was 4th in her category and Heidi a wonderful 3rd in the Senior Lyrical category! In an unusual twist, as Heidi had to leave before the presentation ceremony at the end of the day, Miss Ann, somewhat reluctantly, found herself stood upon the podium to collect Heidi's trophy! We had beautiful entries additionally from Avannah, Jessica, Madeleine, Olivia, Esmè and Emily Grace. They performed superbly and we were so proud to see so many of our dancers braving these solo performances! Entering as a team is brave, but as a solo or duet these dancers are fearless!

Well done to all of our dancers who took part; you all represented Topaz so well and we are super proud of you all!! Every dancer left with at least one medal, and we REALLY need to consider upgrading our trophy cabinet!!
Does your dancer fancy putting themselves forward to be a member of the competition team? Auditions are held annually at the end of the school year for places in the team next year. Auditions are strict and competitive, with a focus on dedication, commitment to working hard and teamwork.
All current team members are required to reaudition each year; no place is guaranteed!! There are also minimum technique and performance class requirements to qualify as a member of the team. This may seem strict, and that is because it is! Miss Kate, over the years, has really honed her methods to help the dancers to achieve competition success!
Speak to one our teachers if your dancer wants to expand their dance classes to make themselves eligible for the competition auditions in July. The earlier the better, so skills can be built up and technique improved in preparation for the auditions.
